You wouldn’t be alone if you are the type of person who seeks out therapy only when things in life are difficult. Like, really difficult.

But did you know that seeking out therapy when life it not SO bad can actually be a good idea?

Summertime means longer days, warmer weather, slower schedules and maybe, just maybe you have a vacation or two planned. Perhaps feelings of stress, anxiety or depression feel less severe and more manageable in the summer.

Now, I’m not suggesting that if you are currently living your best life that you should make an appointment with a therapist right away. By all means, stay in the flow of your greatness!

But if things are just “ok” or you have some “stuff” that you know will eventually bubble back up when the chaos of crazy schedules resumes, summertime is as good a time as any to see a therapist.

Here are three reasons why summertime can be a great time to start therapy:

  1. For most, summertime means slower schedules. Maybe your job lets you leave work early on Fridays. If you’re a parent, summer means that you are not competing with the craziness of the school year, homework, sports schedules, etc. Why not take this time to prioritize your mental health while you have it?
  2. When your mind and body is not under extreme stress, it can be easier to learn and practice different tools and strategies to manage your mood and/or anxiety. Then, when and if symptoms do flare up again, you have the tools in your toolbox ready to go.
  3. Sometimes moods suck in summer. Maybe you recently lost a parent. Perhaps you’re going through a break-up or divorce. Maybe you’re super unhappy at your job. Life stressors do not discriminate by season.

Don’t wait for that “perfect” time to seek help for your mood. Use this summer to take care YOU…you’re worth it! Prioritize your happiness today. Give me a call or send me an email to set up a time to meet!
